A Grab-bag of Goodies

The long shlepp south:  I trek down to Tel Aviv yesterday to screen another group of potential students.  On the way back, a group of young musicians are jamming quietly near me on the train.  Guitar, dumbek, bouzouki, vocals.  No white-bread top forty stuff: they are singing Dror Yikra and a few Greek classics.

Clean your screen:  Try this, compliments of Northern LS.

Be glad you live here:  Or anywhere other than a place like Saudi Arabia, where this is a crime.  It continues to blow my mind that the world seems to find this acceptable.  It is one of the most bizarre things that the US still gives military aid to the Saudis, despite crap like this and the fact that the Saudis blatantly fund international terrorism.

  1. It blows my mind that any woman with even one active brain cell, given a choice, would agree to GO there, never mind live there. I find it hard to dredge up even the tiniest amount of sympathy for her. If you choose to sleep with your head under a guillotine, it’s nobody’s fault but your own if it gets, well, you know.

I mean, if the woman were there under cover, helping to create an underground railroad to smuggle other women out, I could understand. But she went to the worst place in the world for a woman to be thinking it’d be ‘different’ for her?

Yeah, wait, let me grab my Israeli passport and hop on the plane with her…

  2. And what about the millions of women born into that environment? No one pays any attention to them, but a Western woman who ends up getting into trouble there at least generates some media heat. This woman may actually be helping just by making the situation m0re blatantly clear to the rest of the world.

  3. OK, I’ll give you that, but I’d still like to whop her over the head with a rolled up newspaper! What WAS she thinking???
